
Governor Greg Abbott has appointed two new members and reappointed one existing member to the University of Houston System Board of Regents. Tommy Lucas, O.D., and Lynden Rose were named as new regents, while Alonzo Cantu was reappointed. Bryan Clark also joins the board for a term ending in 2029.
The University of Houston System Board of Regents, which oversees more than 74,000 students, adds new expertise with these appointments. Tommy Lucas, an optometrist from Harker Heights, is co-founder and president of VIEW Optometry and has held leadership roles in the Texas Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. He earned degrees in science from Baylor University and the UH College of Optometry, according to the Governor’s office.
Lynden Rose adds legal expertise to the board. A Houston attorney and Of Counsel with HooverSlovacek LLP, Rose has served on the Harris County Houston Sports Authority Board and as Honorary Consul General for the Bahamas in the U.S. Southwest. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and a Juris Doctor, both from the University of Houston.
Alonzo Cantu, experienced in both construction and finance, has been reappointed to the board. He serves as CEO and president of Cantu Construction & Development Company and as chairman of Lone Star National Bank. Cantu holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Houston and contributes leadership across multiple educational and health organizations in the region.
Bryan Clark’s appointment brings additional fiscal oversight to the board. A certified public accountant and principal at Doeren Mayhew, Clark is affiliated with professional accounting organizations and has experience in financial governance. His community involvement includes roles with Sagemont Church and Americans United for Life. Clark’s term on the board runs through 2029.
