Tragedy struck Covington, Tennessee when an illicit firearm deal among youths turned violent, leaving three teenagers with gunshot wounds. The Covington Police Department responded to the incident on Saturday after the injured parties were brought to Baptist Memorial Hospital - Tipton around 4:30 p.m., as per an official social media post from the Covington Tennessee Police Department.

The confrontation occurred in a neighborhood known as the "North Subs," specifically the 1800 block of Wooten Street. It escalated from an arranged firearm transaction, involving several juveniles, into a shootout between parties inside and outside a silver Nissan Rogue. The Covington Police Chief, Donna Turner, spoke to the gravity of the situation, stating that "this is an example of juveniles with firearms which could have been fatal." The evidence collected was indicative of the chaotic scene: bullet damages to a nearby vehicle and residence along with surveillance footage that helped to identify the involved Nissan Rogue, as per the Covington Tennessee Police Department.

Investigators, later on, managed to round up the suspects including one adult and five juveniles, along with their parents or guardians. The 17-year-old driver of the vehicle, a Covington juvenile, faces charges of Facilitation of Aggravated Assault and Reckless Endangerment. Additional charges have been brought against a mix of Covington and Drummonds teens, ranging from Aggravated Assault to Vandalism and Tampering with Evidence. Markevious Nelson, 23, from Wooten Street, is facing multiple felonies, including Aggravated Assault and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. He is currently held at the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office awaiting arraignment.

The repercussions of the event have extended beyond the immediate suspects. Two parents, identified as Tammy Poole, 58, and Vanquita Taylor, 35, were arrested for Violation of a Juvenile Court Order with a bond set at $2,500.00 pending court appearance. The investigators' remarks on parental responsibility were clear, "We are working closely with the Tipton County Youth Service Officer and will continue to hold parents responsible when they do not properly monitor their children’s activities," added Chief Turner. The community has been urged to assist with any further information, as stated by the Covington Tennessee Police Department.
