The National Weather Service in Honolulu forecasts shifting weather for Hawaii, with southwest winds today giving way to a cold front bringing moderate to heavy showers from Niihau and Kauai tonight, spreading to Oahu by Thursday morning and Maui County by Thursday night. The front is expected to weaken Friday, followed by a temporary mix of sea and land breezes on Saturday before a stronger, moisture-laden front increases rainfall chances statewide Saturday night, according to the National Weather Service.
For aviation, light to moderate southwest winds are expected today, with MVFR conditions possible near Kauai tonight due to showers and temporary mountain obscurations. Northwesterly winds behind the front should improve conditions to VFR as the front moves through, as reported by the National Weather Service.
Light southerly winds will continue today before a front moves across Kauai waters tonight and eastward through Thursday. A northwest swell (320°) is already high, with another swell (330°) expected, keeping surf elevated. A Small Craft Advisory is in effect until 6 PM HST today for Kauai and Oahu windward waters. A High Surf Advisory continues until 6 PM HST Thursday for select shores. Fire weather remains below critical levels due to light winds, higher humidity, and temperature inversions around 6,000–7,000 feet, as stated by the National Weather Service.
