The City of Hazelwood is offering curbside pickup for real Christmas trees during the first two weeks of January 2026, the city announced on social media. Residents are asked to remove all decorations and cut trees into 4-foot sections before placing them at the curb on their regular pickup day. The recycling service, provided by Republic Services, is intended to simplify post-holiday cleanup and promote sustainability.
The city emphasized that all decorations must be removed from trees, as even a single piece of tinsel can disrupt the recycling process, according to a Facebook post. The curbside pickup service is free, but trees that do not meet the guidelines may not be collected, potentially hindering neighborhood cleanup efforts supported by local groups like Hazelwood Ward 3 Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
Residents in Hazelwood’s Wards 4, 7, and 8, as well as other areas, are being contacted to encourage participation in the tree recycling program. The initiative reflects a broader trend of municipalities partnering with waste management services like Republic Services to reduce landfill use and promote environmentally friendly practices. The city notes that the program supports its #GoGreen efforts, encouraging sustainable choices beyond the holiday season.
