As the holiday season swings into full gear, Hillsborough County is shining a spotlight on the backbone of our community—the local small businesses. In a gesture aimed at encouraging residents to shop with a purpose, the county is highlighting the importance of supporting these entrepreneurial ventures, especially given their critical role in the local economy during this peak retail period.
An upcoming event, Local Stories Live, slated for December 5, 2025, is set to take an in-depth look into the "Retail Roller Coaster" of small business ownership. Organized by the Entrepreneur Collaborative Center (ECC), this gathering will feature real-life business tales from those who've journeyed through the turbulence of retail. According to Hillsborough County's announcement, attendees will gain insight into the resilience and creativity needed to build a brand from scratch.
Among the entrepreneurs sharing their stories will be Joseph Jackson, beloved for his Eat This Dessert First cheesecakes, Meghan Parsons, the craftswoman behind Get Charmed Co.'s custom jewelry, and Sue-Ellen J. Bruno, who brings boutique charm to the community through Auzalu's Artisan Market & Pottery Studio. Their narratives are not just accounts of personal success but emblematic of how the fabric of a community strengthens when its members invest in its growth.
The significance of these local businesses extends well beyond the holiday window, but the season itself offers a timely reminder of our collective power as consumers. "Your support can make a meaningful difference in their success," noted the Hillsborough County news release.
