A Honduran national, identified as 33-year-old Bryan Javier Perez-Espinoza, has been sentenced to a federal prison term for illegal reentry into the United States and firearms possession. In an announcement on December 3, Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson disclosed that Perez-Espinoza will serve 21 months behind bars, according to the U.S. Attoeny's Office.

After being previously removed back to Honduras on September 30, 2022, Perez-Espinoza was discovered in Orleans Parish on March 23, 2024. Following an indictment on May 22, 2025, he faced charges for reentry of a removed alien and illegal alien in possession of a weapon, as per the U.S. Attorney's Office.

The case falls under Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative focusing on halting illegal immigration, breaking up transnational criminal organizations, and ensuring community safety. This comprehensive approach engages the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhoods programs in a united effort, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson applauded the work of U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Department of Homeland Security, along with their local and federal law enforcement partners, in the apprehension and prosecution of Perez-Espinoza. As stated by the U.S. Attorney's Office news release, "Assistant United States Attorney Spiro G. Latsis of the General Crimes Unit prosecuted the case." Public Information Officer Shane M. Jones represented the United States Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Louisiana, in releasing this information.
