On Friday in the Bronx, a discovery that pierces the quietude of Van Cortlandt Park has become the center of police attention. According to ABC7NY, possible human remains were located within the wooded expanse near the Major Deegan Expressway. The unsettling find prompted crime scene investigators to converge upon the site, where only the description 'skeletal remains' has been provided thus far.
Further information disclosed by the New York Post reveals that the remains were stumbled upon by a group of artifact hunters, close to 11:38 a.m., adjacent to the expressway's southbound lanes. This grim discovery, near Exit 13 has not only drawn investigators but has led to portions of the park being sectioned off, as the investigation extends into the night.
The Medical Examiner's office has been summoned to undertake the arduous task of identifying the remains and determining the cause of death, a process mired with its own set of challenges given the state of the discovery. Present at the scene, the city’s Office of Chief Medical Examiner was seen removing the remains, a visual reminder of mortality intermingling with the mundane flow of nearby traffic.
The New York Police Department is spearheading the investigation in collaboration with the medical examiner's office, hoping to shed light on the circumstances that preceded this disquieting episode.
