The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has taken a light-hearted approach in a recent call for assistance on social media, seeking a suspect with a flair for Christmas theft. Authorities posted about a "Jolly Ol' Pocket-Stuffer" they hope to identify regarding an incident in a Moncrief Park discount store.
Dressed in what could only be described as festive shoplifting attire, a black and red checkered robe, the suspect was caught on camera embodying a misguided holiday spirit. According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office's post, the individual walked in with an empty robe and proceeded to fill it with merchandise that later, after avoiding the checkout line, would disappear like an illusionist's trick.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office quipped that while the suspect's actions were festive, they were certainly not legal. In an effort to apprehend the merry thief, they have encouraged anyone with information to reach out. They've extended the offer of a conversation to discuss the suspect's "festive fashion choices and the items you tucked away," obviously referring to the clothing the suspect used as an ad hoc sack for pilfered goods.
Community members who could identify the suspect are encouraged to call 904.630.0500. For those preferring anonymity, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office recommends contacting First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1.866.845.TIPS, where a tip could lead to "real holiday cash." In an effort to involve the broader community, they also pointed the public to their Unsolved Crimes page for additional assistance.
