The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Tennessee, shared a tongue-in-cheek BOLO (Be On The Look Out) notice on social media, advising citizens of "suspected suspicious activity" during the holiday season. According to the sheriff's office post, families have been consistently waking up to find unexplained gifts under their Christmas trees.
The ongoing investigation, spanning years, originally kicked off with a surveillance photo taken on December 24th in the Strawberry Plains area. The sheriff's post humorously noted that the "only evidence Investigators have found, is that in recent years DNA evidence has been obtained from an empty glass of what appears to be milk and a plate with cookie crumbs." An attempt to supposedly scientifically play along with the holiday spirit, authorities claimed that the DNA results matched a profile from someone who resides at the North Pole, a clear nudge to the legend of Santa Claus.
This playful notice is a recurring holiday tradition, engaging the community with a light-hearted "mystery." The sheriff's office reassured residents that the annual appearance of gifts in their homes is nothing to be concerned about and instead contributes to the general delight and happiness of their children on Christmas morning.
Reflective of broader societal customs, the little jest from the sheriff's office serves to momentarily draw together the community in a shared understanding that some traditions, magical in their own right, need to simply be embraced. "We will advise if there are in updates in this case. Merry Christmas," concluded the sheriff's post, leaving residents with a dose of humor as they prepare to celebrate the festive season.
