Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway has filed an injunction against Frank Savory IV and S. Family Enterprises, LLC over allegations that Savory IV operated the Kansas City-based Savory and Sons Funeral Home without proper licensing. The action also addresses claims of false promises and unfair practices in the sale of funeral arrangements.
Attorney General Hanaway emphasized the importance of fairness and integrity in funeral services, stating that families should be able to trust these institutions. The injunction was pursued in coordination with Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson, who also obtained a grand jury indictment against Frank Savory IV.
The indictment alleges that from 2023 to 2025, Frank Savory IV and S. Family Enterprises, LLC sold funeral services without the required Missouri license. The charges include Financial Exploitation of a Disabled Person, Stealing, and Deceptive Business Practices, according to the Attorney General’s Office.
In a press release, Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson emphasized her office’s commitment to protecting vulnerable residents, stating, "We will never tolerate exploitation of our community's most vulnerable members." She added that her office will continue to hold businesses accountable for criminal activity that harms Jackson County residents.
Attorney General Hanaway and Prosecutor Johnson are encouraging anyone who believes they were affected by Savory and Sons’ practices to come forward. Those impacted can contact the Attorney General’s office at 800-392-8222 or submit complaints through the office’s website. Savory IV is presumed innocent until proven guilty, and the charges remain allegations at this time.
