Kendall County is moving ahead with plans to turn Boerne’s Burdick Community Center into county office space, signing off on early design work that will set the tone for the entire project.
On Dec. 9, Kendall County commissioners approved funding to begin pre-design and schematic work on the Burdick Community Center in Boerne, moving the county a step closer to converting the building into county offices. The court authorized design services with a cost not to exceed $110,500. County leaders say the project will make room for Precinct 2 offices and other county departments.
Commissioners Approve Design Funding
The vote came during the Commissioners Court meeting on Dec. 9, where officials walked through the scope and price tag of the initial design phase before giving it the green light. According to the county’s meeting video on YouTube, the funding covers pre-design and schematic design services with a cost not to exceed $110,500.
Where the Burdick Center Fits in County Plans
Kendall County purchased the Burdick Community Center in January for $4 million and plans to house Precinct 2 offices alongside other county departments, according to Community Impact. Before the sale, the building was used as a community center by Roy Maas Youth Alternatives.
Design Process and Next Steps
The pre-design and schematic phase will guide decisions about whether to retrofit the existing building or pursue more extensive construction, and it will shape budget estimates and a construction timetable. The county previously solicited architectural proposals for 119 Old San Antonio Road and presented scoring for RFQ 2025-06 in July, per the Kendall County Commissioners Court agenda and packet, making this approved design funding the next formal step in the project’s planning process.
