The City of Kettering, along with Kettering City Schools, is marshaling efforts to ensure the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists with a new initiative named CROSS SAFE, KETTERING. Announced via a social media post by the Kettering Police Department, this program underscores the collective responsibility of every Kettering resident—whether on foot, on wheels, or behind the wheel—to foster a safe environment on their streets.
Under the campaign, the community members are reminded of basic safety practices: stopping, looking, and listening before crossing the streets, stepping off bikes and scooters while traversing crosswalks, removing distractions such as earbuds to remain alert, and dedicating attention to the safe crossings. For drivers, the emphasis is on heightened vigilance, especially during the darker hours, maintaining focus on the road, keeping phones down, and being watchful for those who are walking or biking. The Kettering Police Department's social media message imparts clear directives to each group within the travel ecosystem. "In Kettering, we are RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE and SAFE. This means everyone plays a role in traffic safety," a post detailed on their official Facebook page.
The launch of CROSS SAFE, KETTERING, couldn't be timelier, considering the advent of the holiday season—a period traditionally characterized by a surge in pedestrian and vehicular movement. Parents and guardians are especially encouraged to play a proactive role by reminding their children of these safety measures as part of the daily routine. "Parents and guardians: You can help by reminding your children of these added safety measures when you send them to school," advocates the police department's social media announcement.
