A 57-year-old Knoxville man, Steven Dockery, has been arrested following a fatal hit-and-run collision with a motorcycle on Clinton Highway, local authorities report. The Knoxville Police Department (KPD) responded to the incident at the intersection of Clinton Highway and Bradshaw Garden Road on Saturday afternoon, according to WVLT. Dockery was taken into custody on multiple charges, including vehicular homicide by intoxication and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
Early reports indicate that the crash occurred when a black Chevrolet Uplander, purportedly driven by Dockery, was traveling north and attempted to turn left onto Bradshaw Garden Road. In the process, it is alleged that the Uplander cut into the path of a southbound motorcycle, causing a collision. The motorcycle driver, described only as an adult male, sustained critical injuries and was later pronounced dead at a hospital, as detailed by WBIR. After the crash, witnesses reported that the other vehicle had fled the scene, prompting an urgent search by KPD that included scouring video footage from nearby locations.
The break in the case came when officers located the Chevrolet Uplander at an apartment complex on Mystic River Way, which was captured on nearby video footage. "Based on the investigation being led by KPD crash reconstruction personnel, it is believed that the Uplander was traveling north on Clinton Highway and attempted to turn left onto Bradshaw Garden Road, pulling into the path of the southbound motorcycle," said KPD spokesperson Scott Erland in a press release obtained by WBIR.
The subsequent arrest of Dockery occurred roughly two hours after the fatal event, Knoxville police added, noting that Dockery exhibited signs of being under the influence. The investigation remains active, and KPD continues to appeal for more information from the public, as shared in a social media post from the Knoxville Police Department page.
