In what has become an annual tradition, the Lakewood Police Department played host to a group of local youngsters for their Cops and Kids event this past weekend. In an effort to foster community relations and give back during the holiday season, eighteen children from the Lakewood area were treated to a day of meals and shopping, courtesy of the LPD. The department shared details of the event in a post on their official Facebook page.
The kids, selected to participate in the program, were provided not just with transportation but also with breakfast and lunch. The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the $175 holiday shopping spree each child received to use at Walmart. The department sought to ensure the kids enjoyed a day of festivities, aiming to create a positive impression and to strongly establish a bond with the younger members of the community.
In their social media post, the Lakewood Police Department expressed their merriment over the event's success. According to the LPD's Facebook post, "On Saturday, Dec. 13, eighteen Lakewood kids were guests of the LPD at the annual Cops and Kids event. Each guest was provided transportation as well as breakfast, lunch, and a $175 holiday shopping trip at Wal-Mart." This engagement comes at a time when law enforcement agencies across the country are looking to build trust and rapport within their communities.
