The spirit of giving shone brightly in Lakewood as the local police department's "Cram The Cruiser" charity event turned out to be a resounding success, as reported on their official Facebook page. The community-wide effort yielded a sizeable haul of food, goods, and cash, all destined to support families in need through the Lakewood Community Services Center, signaling a triumph of collective action over the chill of individual isolation.
Demonstrating more than just their law enforcement chops, Neighborhood Officers were praised for their sacrifice enduring the December cold to gather the generous donations which included dozens of bags filled with food and over $280 in cash from caring citizens, in an additional show of solidarity, the Lakewood Police Department staff chipped in by stuffing another cruiser full of provisions, and in a congenial twist, turned their "Beard Fund”—a kitty totalling $2600 that officers contribute to for the privilege of sporting facial hair—into another gift for the cause.
Businesses, too, played their part in this communal pageant of altruism, with Giant Eagle notably being acknowledged for offering up space for the benevolent proceedings. This year's friendly competition, dubbed the "Battle of the Wards", saw Ward 3 emerge as the victor in a close contest, according to Lakewood Police Department's Post, a small but symbolic coda to an event that highlights the real win lies in the unity and compassion of a community rallied for a common good.
