The Los Angeles Police Department continues its appeal to the public for new leads in the unresolved double homicide of Clarence Simpson, 20, and Christian Hart, 18, crimes that have left the South Park community and the victims' families seeking closure. According to a CBS News Los Angeles report, the incident took place on June 2, 2024, where LAPD officers responded to a call around 12:15 a.m. about shots being fired at Maple Avenue and 12th Street, finding both young men suffering from fatal wounds.
Despite exhaustive efforts by Central Bureau detectives, they've hit a standstill and, in a quest for justice, detectives have released images of two vehicles potentially involved - a white 2009-2012 Audi A4 and a gold 2011-2016 BMW 5 Series, both sporting tinted windows; they are still piecing together scant clues that might form a coherent narrative of the night's tragic events, as mentioned in an LAPD news release. The Los Angeles City Council, along with Councilmember Ysabel Jurado, is offering a $75,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the responsible parties.
"The city of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Police Department are seeking to provide Simpson's and Hart's family with justice and closure for the loss of their family member and are seeking the public’s assistance in locating the persons responsible for this senseless murder," police stated. This sentiment echoes across both statements, underscoring the deep loss and commitment to finding answers within the community and justice system alike.
To aid the investigation, detectives encourage anyone with information to come forward; Detective Zamora can be reached at (213) 880-2766, and Detective Abundis at (213) 716-8097 – with the assurance that tips can also be made anonymously through LA Regional Crime Stoppers and the "P3 Tips" mobile application.
