The landscape of addiction treatment and acute care in Southern Nevada is set for a significant evolution with the forthcoming establishment of the Las Vegas Recovery Hospital. Anchored on the grounds of Dignity Health's Rose de Lima Hospital in Henderson, this facility marks a novel approach to managing substance use disorders coupled with severe medical issues. As reported by News3LV, the Las Vegas Recovery Hospital will commence operations later this month, enhancing patients' access to integrated care traditionally lacking in this space.
Stretching across 32,000 square feet, the hospital is prepared to accommodate patients in its 68-bed facility, offering both single and double rooms. In the statement obtained by News3LV, Stacey Zierath-Campa, CEO of the recovery hospital, elaborated on the urgent need for such an institution. "When patients in withdrawal or active addiction arrive at emergency rooms with infections, organ dysfunction, or severe medical instability, they often hit a [wall]," she outlined, pointing to the recurring dilemma faced by emergency departments.
The specialized establishment aims to bridge the existing gap between emergency medical services and conventional rehabilitation centers. This first-of-its-kind facility in the region is designed to manage a broad spectrum of conditions, including serious infections, respiratory complications, and organ diseases, as stated by 8 News Now. From severe infections like sepsis and endocarditis to neurological and metabolic crises, the Las Vegas Recovery Hospital is equipped to provide the intensive care often necessitated during withdrawal or addiction treatment.
The care model promoted by the Las Vegas Recovery Hospital goes beyond just medical treatment—it intertwines behavioral and psychiatric therapy with peer support in a comprehensive approach. With a team that comprises addiction-certified doctors, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, social workers, and certified recovery specialists, the hospital is committed to offering personalized treatment regimens. Katherine Vergos, Dignity Health Las Vegas Market President, told 8 News Now, "Their presence will expand vital health care services in Southern Nevada, providing much-needed specialized care for those with substance abuse disorders." Indicating the hospital's potential ripple effect in alleviating the pressure on emergency services and contributing to overall healthcare improvement efforts in the region.
