After a bout with downed utility poles and lines that had snarled traffic and raised the ire of commuters, the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has finally waved the checkered flag on repairs along Kāne‘ohe-bound Likelike Highway. All lanes that were previously closed due to the mishap have been reopened as of 10:22 a.m., yesterday, with the utilities having completed their necessary work, according to HDOT's announcement.

Nonetheless, HDOT isn't quite done—there’s a bit more mending to be managed. Streetlights that went dark due to the downed poles still need attention. As a result, today will see the temporary closure of the drop lane to Makuahine/Kalihi Street in the Kāne‘ohe-bound direction. This adjustment to the traffic flow will occur between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., leaving two lanes open, and access to Makuahine/Kalihi Street from Likelike Highway will remain available.

This stretch of the Likelike Highway, normally busy with daily traffic, will return to normal once Thursday’s work is completed. The repairs mark the final step in an emergency closure that has affected local commuting patterns across this scenic part of Hawaii.
