While the Powerball jackpot continues to elude players, skyrocketing to a massive $1.1 billion, a slice of luck found its way to Clearwater, Florida this weekend. A Publix grocery store on 525 S. Belcher Road sold a Powerball ticket worth $1 million, WFLA reported. The ticket matched five of the winning numbers from Saturday's draw, specifically 1, 28, 31, 57, and 58, although it missed the Powerball number of 16.
While Clearwater reels from this win, the Florida Lottery website confirms that there were other million-dollar winners nationwide, and Florida's lottery luck didn’t stop there earlier that Saturday a $59,439 Fantasy 5 midday jackpot ticket was sold at a Tallahassee Chevron. These lucky winners have the option to make an appointment to claim their prizes at the Florida Lottery's main office in Tallahassee or at its nine district offices around the state as noted by the Miami Herald.
Across the United States, California, Minnesota, New Jersey, and Virginia each celebrated their own $1 million winners, further expanding the weekend's high-stakes excitement, according to the Powerball website. Even higher prizes were awarded to tickets sold in North Carolina and Pennsylvania, where two $2 million winners were reported to have both matched the five white balls and invested in the Power Play option, Powerball officials stated in a release that was picked up by Patch.
The next chance for lottery hopefuls to hit the near-record jackpot is fast approaching, with the drawing scheduled for today at 10:59 p.m. from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee this lottery bonanza, including the potential billion-dollar jackpot, continues to attract a frenzy of excitement from coast to coast, and with no end in immediate sight, the jackpot could climb even higher into uncharted territory if no winner emerges in the upcoming draw.
