A man's attempt to sell a luxury watch on Facebook Marketplace turned violent last month, resulting in an arrest this past week. Abijah Antonio Javois, 21, has been accused of shooting the seller while trying to steal a $115,000 Richard Mille watch, Orange County Sheriff's Office reported.
The disturbing incident took place on November 10 at the Altamonte Mall, where the victim had agreed to meet Javois to sell the watch. After exchanging counterfeit cash for the timepiece, Javois fled from the scene, driving away. Realizing the money was fake, the victim pursued Javois for approximately 11 miles, according to ClickOrlando. It was then that Javois, bringing the rifle with him, stopped and allegedly fired at the victim, causing gunshot injuries to the jaw and shoulder and leaving bullets in the victim's car, the vehicle being a Tesla, outfitted with cameras that later aided in the investigation.
After the shooting, the wounded seller crashed while attempting to reach the hospital, but was subsequently cared for by first responders. Javois' initial court appearance yesterday led to a no-bond order and a mandate to avoid contact with the victim or any witnesses. He was also ordered to abstain from visiting the scene, possessing weapons, and using online marketplaces for transactions.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers apprehended Javois at Cyril E. King Airport in the U.S. Virgin Islands during a routine check, recognizing him from an active Florida warrant. Alongside attempted murder and battery, Javois is charged with grand theft. His extradition to Florida highlights the diligence of cross-jurisdictional teamwork in criminal apprehension, a shining example set by Florida and U.S. Virgin Islands law enforcement, as stated in a report from FOX 35 Orlando.
