The Mankato Police Department has released its November Traffic Enforcement Highlights, providing a snapshot of local efforts to enhance road safety throughout the previous month. According to the Mankato Police and Fire post on their Facebook page, the department conducted 384 traffic stops and issued a total of 107 citations.
In the ongoing battle against impaired driving, officers arrested 16 individuals for driving while intoxicated—the highest blood alcohol concentration (BAC) recorded was a staggering 0.27. Notably, speeding remains a pressing concern, with 22 citations issued for the infraction, including instances where motorists were caught driving 70 mph in a 30 zone, 65 mph in a 40 zone, and 85 mph in a 65 zone. The lives of pedestrians and fellow citizens are put at risk by such flagrant disregard for speed limits.
The department used its November report to remind drivers of simple yet crucial safety measures: buckle up, slow down, drive sober, and stay alert. These preventative steps are highlighted as key actions each individual can take to aid in maintaining safety on Mankato streets.
While the overall number of incidents suggests a persistent problem with excessive speed and impaired driving, the police department’s proactive approach reflects a commitment to reducing these risks. The effectiveness of their message is evidenced by the instances of excessive speed and impaired judgment still alarmingly present on the roads.
