As temperatures decrease, Memphis is preparing its snow and ice mitigation plan for the 2025 winter season. The City of Memphis reports that Public Works crews will focus on maintaining one lane in each direction on designated routes affected by winter weather, rather than limiting treatment to inclines, declines, overpasses, and bridges as in previous seasons.
To support this approach, the city has deployed 15 snow and ice removal trucks and six brine trucks. Public Works crews will pretreat roads with brine when conditions allow and will use straight salt during snow events to enhance melting. Snowplows are scheduled to be deployed when forecasts indicate 2 inches of snow or more.
Memphis residents are encouraged to consult a provided map to view cleared routes. The map shows the city’s planned snow and ice clearing routes as well as Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) routes, helping to ensure that intersections with major thoroughfares are addressed during winter weather events.
The city emphasizes the role of snow and ice removal in maintaining safety and mobility across Memphis. Residents can find more information on preparation and winter updates on the City of Memphis website.
