Early Thursday morning, the Memphis community witnessed a jarring interruption at the intersection of E.H. Crump and Mississippi Boulevard. Action News 5 reported a two-vehicle crash involving a Memphis Fire Department truck. The Memphis Police Department confirmed their response to the incident, which occurred at approximately 6:47 a.m.
Details from the scene reveal that the MFD fire truck was on an emergency call, lights flashing and sirens blaring, when it collided with a civilian vehicle. A citation was handed to the fire truck driver for failure to maintain a safe lookout. The civilian, behind the wheel of a silver sedan, also received multiple citations, including failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, and the more concerning infractions of having no driver's license and no insurance, as per FOX13 Memphis. Both are due in court on January 30 of next year.
One individual was injured as a result of the crash. Taken to a local hospital, their condition was deemed non-critical, adding a sliver of good news to the otherwise grim morning upheaval. The WREG coverage included images of the scene, showcasing the MFD truck stationed in the intersection and the aforementioned sedan bearing significant front-end damage.
