A Jefferson Parish man has entered a guilty plea to several charges, including narcotics trafficking and firearm violations. The U.S. Attorney's office reported that KERNELIUS ALFORD, 35, pleaded guilty last Thursday to possession with intent to distribute marijuana and to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. These offenses carry penalties that may include imprisonment, fines, and supervised release.

Court documents state that on May 2, 2024, ALFORD led Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase, during which he collided with another vehicle and continued to flee before being apprehended. Deputies had attempted to stop ALFORD by activating their lights and sirens, but were initially unsuccessful. A subsequent search of his vehicle uncovered firearms—a Glock and a Romarm Model Mini Draco AK47—as well as marijuana and paraphernalia indicative of distribution.

ALFORD, a resident of Metairie, Louisiana, faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for the drug charge. The firearm charge carries a potential sentence of up to fifteen years in prison, an additional $250,000 fine, and supervised release. Each count also includes a $100 special assessment fee. Sentencing is scheduled for February 24, 2026, before U.S. District Judge Wendy B. Vitter.

ALFORD’s case is being prosecuted under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and firearm-related offenses. The case involves coordination between federal and local law enforcement agencies. The Department of Justice supports programs designed to enhance community safety and works with local organizations on violence prevention. Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the agencies involved, including Homeland Security Investigations and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Department.
