A recent pedestrian collision in Milwaukee that resulted in a fatality is under investigation. The incident occurred on December 26 at 5:30 p.m. when Robin Dieringer, a 48-year-old woman, was crossing the street and was hit by an eastbound vehicle on the 4100 block of W. Townsend Avenue. The victim, identified by her family, later succumbed to her injuries in the hospital, as reported on December 29 by Urban Milwaukee.
According to the Urban Milwaukee, the suspected driver believed to be impaired at the time of the crash has been taken into custody. After initially leaving the scene, the driver returned and was subsequently arrested by the police. Following the accident, charges are being referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office for review.
In a profound loss, Robin Dieringer is survived by her parents, four children, and three grandchildren. Her daughter, Jasmine Dieringer, conveyed the indescribable pain the family is facing in a CBS 58 interview. "I can't eat, I can't sleep, I'm in shock," she said, adding that her mother's passing "doesn't make sense," especially for the younger siblings aged 9 and 12 years old. She reflects on the impactful love her mother instilled, saying, "You can see our mom in us, she loved all of us. We were raised loved, loved by our mom."
Seeking more than just legal repercussions for the driver, Jasmine Dieringer hoped "justice for her family means change," as she stated to CBS 58. "Justice to me would be that people think twice before they are behind the wheel intoxicated or if they’re driving fast. You’re going to get to your destination. It’s senseless." In a painful moment, she recounted having told her mother "I love you" a million times on Christmas, unaware it would be their last exchange. Jasmine's hope is that the driver not only faces legal consequences but also internalizes the "pain they caused and there’s lessons learned."
Local authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision, as noted by both WISN and Urban Milwaukee. The Dieringer family’s story underscores a tragic reminder of the enduring consequences of impaired driving, shaping a holiday season into a period of mourning and loss.
