In response to the swelling tide of complaints regarding leaf collection in the city, Ald. Westmoreland has indicated that the city's Department of Public Works is back on the job this week, setting their sights on the amassed foliage. According to the City of Milwaukee recent statement, more than 400 leaf pile locations are already on Department of Public Works's radar, but residents keep adding new sightings to the mix.

It's not a perfect system; amidst the shuffle, some leaf stacks might be missed. "While DPW works to document all large piles, there is always room for error and some piles may not yet be accounted for," stated Ald. Westmoreland. To hedge against such oversights, the public's input is not only welcomed, but encouraged, as reported by the City of Milwaukee.

For the leaves still loitering on the streets, residents can play their part by flagging these locations. These submissions can be made online at the city's dedicated leaf collection page or via a direct line to the city services at 414-286-CITY. Should a leaf pile be MIA from the current collection list, Department of Public Works is set to evaluate and potentially add it to their rounds, as detailed by the City of Milwaukee.

Moreover, the Department of Public Works has shared plans of proposing an early spring tender, slated for 2026, as a rake-out opportunity aiming to scoop up any stragglers from this year's fall season. "Additionally, per DPW leadership, there is an intent to offer an early spring 2026 leaf rake-out opportunity to collect any remaining leaves from fall 2025," Ald. Westmoreland's office conveyed. For now, residents are given the green light to contact their District Alderperson's office directly for any concerns or inquiries that might arise amid the leaf-littered landscape, as per the City of Milwaukee.
