The City of Minneapolis has issued a Snow Emergency, effective yesterday, to tackle the hefty blanket of snow covering the city. Declared to ensure clear and navigable streets, the emergency puts parking restrictions in place across the city and mobilizes plowing crews to work on more than 1,000 miles of streetways. As per the City of Minneapolis, residents are required to comply with the Snow Emergency parking rules starting at 9 p.m. to facilitate the city's capacity to plow the streets as wide as possible.
With the snow emergency rolling out in phases, parking restrictions will be in place for three days. Starting yesterday at 9 p.m. through 8 a.m. today, vehicles were prohibited from parking on either side of Snow Emergency routes until those streets were fully plowed. Today, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., parking is not allowed on the even-numbered side of non-Snow Emergency routes, nor on either side of parkways until they’re cleared. On December 2, the same restriction applies to the odd-numbered side of non-Snow Emergency routes. A map of designated Snow Emergency routes is available on the city’s website.
To ease the process for residents, the city has advised multiple ways in which one can stay informed about the Snow Emergencies and the necessary actions that should be followed. Among the available channels are text alerts by sending "MPLSAlerts" to 77295, creating a Smart911 profile online, checking the City of Minneapolis website, or using the MPLS Parking app. Additionally, a hotline is available at 612-348-SNOW, offering information in multiple languages to accommodate residents of diverse backgrounds.
