A brush fire that sparked from a motorcycle accident in Chatsworth has been halted, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported. On November 30th, shortly before 1 p.m., a motorcycle accident on 11000 N Redmesa Dr triggered a fire that quickly spread to an estimated size of one acre, pushing towards the ridgeline of Santa Susanna Pass. Initial efforts by fire crews from the LA County Fire Department were aimed at tackling the blaze, which also resulted in "some generalized spot fires," according to an LAFD alert.
The rider involved in the accident was assessed at the scene and later transported to a local hospital in an unknown condition. As the firefighters worked against the steep, rocky terrain, the efforts to contain the fire began to show results. Updated information from the department stated that "all forward progress has stopped," with the fire's size reduced to half an acre. The update was conveyed through an LAFD alert later that same day. No injuries to fire department personnel were reported during the incident, and the cause of the motorcycle accident remains under investigation.
In a subsequent development, command of the incident, named the Ruby Incident, was transitioned to the Mountains Recreation & Conservation Authority (MRCA). The fire's footprint was confirmed to be within the jurisdiction of MRCA, and they positioned a duty officer on-site to maintain overnight patrol. The on-scene team was supported by at least one MRCA Type III engine and a water tender until the next morning. The Los Angeles Fire Department informed the public of this transition in an official alert issued on the day of the incident.
The LAFD also announced its intention to send drones at 0700 hrs on December 1st to evaluate the scene and coordinate with MRCA for any further needs.
