On Monday afternoon, a chaotic scene unfolded in the Bronx when an MTA bus collided with several cars, leaving at least eight people injured and taken to the hospital. The incident, as reported by FDNY officials, occurred just before 2 p.m. at 665 E. 163 St. The crash involved the bus hitting two vehicles, pushing an SUV onto the sidewalk, and leaving a blue coupe with severe damage, as per ABC7NY.
Disturbing footage captured by The Post revealed passengers in a state of distress aboard the BX6 bus, with some screaming and others escaping through a window as the bus temporarily halted. According to sources, the 63-year-old bus driver alongside seven passengers suffered injuries. By trying to accelerate up a hill, the bus suffered a mechanical failure, police sources told ABC7NY, with the driver attempting to press the emergency brake and losing control, subsequently hitting the vehicles.
Witnesses at the scene described the event with stark recall. "I saw a bunch of ambulance cops and stuff and like and I just saw the back of the car gone," Isiah Ross recounted to ABC7NY.
In another account, a witness named Wilson Albert observed the bus hitting six to seven vehicles before being intercepted by an unmarked police car, in a statement given to the New York Post.
After the collision, authorities confirmed that the MTA took the bus out of service as part of the ongoing investigation into the crash's cause. With the driver going up a hill, the bus, hitting several parked vehicles, including a grey sedan and a parked car, were thrust into chaos by the bus driver. Another witness named Mike told the New York Post how he rushed outside after hearing a loud "boom," to find a serious situation where at least one person required stretcher assistance. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the cause of the crash remains under close examination by authorities.
