As December ushers in the final countdown for the MetroCard, the MTA is doubling down on its efforts to ensure a smooth transition to the OMNY system. In what's billed as the last month to use the iconic yellow cards, the MTA has retooled its mobile sales vehicles, previously used for MetroCard services, to now assist New Yorkers in making the switch. These vehicles are set up strategically across the city, providing guidance on the new OMNY system and allowing balance transfers from old MetroCards to the new tap-and-ride service.
For those on the go looking to quickly adapt to the change, the MTA's mobile sales vehicles are an easy solution. "Mobile sales vehicles give riders a quick and easy way to make the switch to OMNY," said MTA Chief Customer Officer Shanifah Rieara, in a statement obtained by BK Reader. The vehicles not only facilitate balance transfers but also offer a rundown on OMNY's benefits, such as fare capping and the ease of tapping instead of swiping.
According to a schedule released by the MTA, these mobile units will be available in numerous locations throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Staten Island, Queens, and Westchester. For instance, New Yorkers in neighborhoods like Sheepshead Bay and Coney Island can find these services at designated times and locations, such as Neptune Avenue and Kings Plaza Shopping Mall, as detailed in a report by PIX11. Detailed schedules for every borough can be found online, and the MTA encourages customers to call 511 to confirm details before visiting.
Furthermore, the MTA has highlighted the availability of 15 Customer Service Centers which complement the mobile units, ensuring widespread accessibility for residents, especially in bus-reliant areas. For a full list of mobile sales vehicle locations and times, as well as details on the 15 additional Customer Service Centers, check the MTA website or reach out via the 511 hotline.
