Despite these efforts, the in-custody adult was pronounced dead at the medical facility. "Our thoughts are with the family of the person who died as we move through this investigation," Sheriff Nicole Morrisey O'Donnell said in the news release.

The East County Major Crimes Team is now heading the death investigation with contributions from detectives across multiple agencies in the area, including the MCSO Detective Unit, Port of Portland Police Department, Gresham Police Department, and Oregon State Police, as noted in the Sheriff's Office's statement release.
