The Department of Public Works in New Orleans is doubling down on efforts to get public input and boost transparency as it upgrades its city infrastructure. This past November saw a series of outreach events where DPW staff engaged with residents and local leaders to discuss road and drainage improvements, as reported by the City of New Orleans.

According to a statement obtained by the City of New Orleans, these events included a presence at the Civic Leadership Academy and meetings with associations and neighborhood initiatives such as the Country Club Gardens Association and the Neighborhood Cares Initiative in Edgewood Heights. At a Lunch and Learn event, hosted with Waggoner Engineering, City of New Orleans Department of Public Works staff shared insights on drainage system planning and resilience.

Engagement didn't stop there. City of New Orleans Department of Public Works took part in the City of New Orleans Neighborhood Summit, held discussions at community office hours in Districts A through E, and met with the Lakeview Civic Improvement and Walnut Bend Neighborhood Associations. These forums were an avenue for the department to showcase project developments, clarify concerns, and collect inputs that could steer future projects.

City of New Orleans Department of Public Works attendance at the Pontchartrain Park Neighborhood Association meeting was particularly noted for its focus on specific community needs and capital improvement plans. "Through these engagements, DPW continues to build relationships with residents by sharing information, listening to concerns, and working directly with neighborhoods on infrastructure priorities," highlighted the public works department, as per the City of New Orleans.
