Early Sunday morning, tragedy struck in New Orleans when a fire claimed the life of a man in his single-family home. According to a press release from the New Orleans Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to a fire near Vienna and Spain streets. Despite the rapid response, the 41-year-old male resident was found deceased in what appeared to be the family room of the dwelling.
The New Orleans Fire Department was called to the scene at 2360 Vienna St. shortly after the emergency call was received at 7:16 a.m. The first units arrived by 7:20 a.m. to face a working fire with flames clearly visible from the left-front corner of the house. Officials said twenty-one firefighters across seven units worked to quickly contain the blaze by 7:52 a.m. They had managed to effectively execute an interior attack to extinguish the fire while also searching for any individuals who might have been trapped inside.
As the firefighters navigated through the smoke and flames, they discovered an unresponsive adult male. "It was determined that the victim was deceased upon NOFD arrival," the New Orleans Fire Department stated. The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of the next of kin. The New Orleans Police Department has joined forces with New Orleans Fire Department fire investigators to understand what led to both the fire and the fatality.
