New York Attorney General Letitia James is urging DoorDash delivery workers to submit claims for their share of a $16.75 million settlement before the deadline. The cutoff for claims has been extended to December 31. The eligibility period covers deliveries made between May 2017 and September 2019, during which DoorDash’s tipping practices were found to have impacted the earnings of workers who rely on tips, according to the Attorney General’s office.

The OAG investigation identified issues with DoorDash’s pay model, finding that tips intended for Dashers were sometimes applied toward guaranteed minimum earnings. Under the settlement, DoorDash is required to revise its payment practices and provide clearer information for both customers and delivery workers. About 63,000 delivery workers are eligible for restitution, though as of Wednesday, only roughly half have submitted claims.

Those eligible for a portion of the settlement have been notified by Atticus Administration, an independent organization managing the distribution of funds. Notifications were sent via email and mail, providing instructions on how affected Dashers can claim their entitled compensation. Attorney General James has emphasized the importance of submitting claims before the deadline this year.

Restitution efforts are underway following findings that DoorDash did not always pass customer tips directly to Dashers as represented. The investigation found that when customers added a tip at checkout, the company sometimes used these funds to offset its own contribution toward guaranteed pay. As a result, tips provided by customers did not always go entirely to the Dashers as intended.
