Even as demand for deliveries remains high post-pandemic, New York City has taken steps to protect workers, with the City Council passing a minimum wage bill for grocery delivery workers, joining restaurant delivery workers who already benefit from similar legislation. Truck drivers and delivery personnel, noted by Ya-Ting Liu, the city’s chief public realm officer, endure harsh weather and tight schedules while keeping essential goods flowing, making their work crucial yet physically demanding.
The trucking industry supports over 327,000 New Yorkers and transports 96% of the state’s manufactured goods, yet the efforts of these workers often go unnoticed despite their economic and social impact, as reported by Poughkeepsie Journal.
