The competition for seats on the Norman City Council is shaping up as the Cleveland County Election Board released the final list of candidates for the upcoming February 2026 municipal election. According to the details shared by the City of Norman's website, residents of Wards 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8 will have the opportunity to cast their votes for their preferred candidates.
Among the noted candidates are Russell A. Rice, Stephanie Adams, and Jacy Deck, all vying for a position to represent Ward 2, while Cullen W. Bieger and Robert Bruce set their sights on Ward 3. Cindy L. Gordon and Helen Grant are listed as the hopefuls for Ward 4 in stark contrast with the trio Shaista Fenwick, Trey Kirby, and Dianna Hutzel, who will be contesting for Ward 5, whereas Joshua A. Hinkle and Kyle Steele aim to lead Ward 6, and finally, Scott Dixon represents the sole candidate for Ward 8.
Citizens interested in participating in this pivotal local government decision-making process must register by January 16, 2026, to vote. In addition to the traditional election day voting scheduled for February 10, voters can also partake in early voting on February 5 and February 6, perhaps offering a more flexible option for those with demanding schedules. Those unable to attend in person can request absentee ballots by the January 26 deadline as outlined in the election calendar provided by the Oklahoma State Election Board, according to the City of Norman's website.
Local elections, often eclipsed by higher-profile state and national races, have a direct and substantial impact on the daily lives of Norman residents. City council decisions shape municipal services, local ordinances, and community programs, making it vital for residents to participate and ensure their voices are represented in this democratic process.
