The spirit of giving is pedaling into Norman with a charitable spin this holiday season. The City of Norman, in collaboration with the Trae Young Family Foundation and Prime Time Transportation, is set to quickly roll out a Bike Giveaway event for local children, according to the City of Norman's announcement. The giveaway is slated for Sunday, December 7, where families can drive through the Young Family Athletic Center to pick up a two-wheeled treasure for their child.

The giveaway aims to provide a fleet of 500 free bicycles, with a variety of sizes including 16-, 18-, and 20-inch models, split evenly between boys’ and girls’ styles. No eligibility requirements are needed to partake in this event, starting at noon, only the necessity for each child to be present to rightfully claim their new bike. “We’re incredibly grateful for the chance to do this giveaway," Mitchell Richardson, Recreation Manager for Norman Parks and Recreation, told the City of Norman. "Providing opportunities for kids to learn, grow, and have fun is a privilege, and we’re thankful to everyone who helps make things like this possible."

The logistics are straightforward: families will drive in on Conference Drive, follow the traffic to the Embassy Suites' lot, and continue to the event space at 2201 Trae Young Drive. Trained volunteers are expected to efficiently distribute tickets to families for the chosen bike size and style. Another volunteer team will then load the bicycle onto the vehicle. The flow of traffic is designed to ensure that all families exit right back onto 24th Avenue Northwest in an orderly fashion.

The community-driven event aimed to distribute gifts while promoting outdoor activity and mobility among children. Organizers focused on efficiency, quickly handing out tickets to families in line to ensure each child received a bike. The event concluded after all bikes were given away, providing participants with new opportunities for recreation this holiday season.
