North Carolina Governor Josh Stein announced that the state added more than 33,000 jobs this year, marking a record year for job growth. According to the Governor’s office, this growth is credited to collaboration between the state, the North Carolina Department of Commerce, and the Economic Development Partnership. In a press event highlighted on the official state government website, Stein noted that North Carolina continues to attract a variety of industries, including biotech and aerospace.

Governor Stein highlighted North Carolina’s skilled workforce, business-friendly climate, and quality of life as factors contributing to the state’s economic growth. Advanced manufacturing and aerospace are among the sectors targeted for further development. The recent announcement of GE Aerospace expanding operations in West Jefferson is cited as an example of the state’s ongoing efforts to create jobs and strengthen its industry base.

The Governor’s office has focused on investment in rural areas of North Carolina. This year, nearly 5,000 new jobs and $12.5 billion in rural investments have been reported. Reginald Speight, Assistant Secretary for the Rural Division, stated that these investments are supporting small towns, local businesses, and creating conditions for long-term economic opportunities.

Governor Stein highlighted several initiatives aimed at supporting rural areas. The SMBiz program has provided over $21 million for recovery projects in western North Carolina, while the Rural Infrastructure Authority has awarded more than $26 million to improve local infrastructure. Additionally, the Rural Health Transformation Program has proposed a $200 million plan to enhance health care in 85 counties. The administration aims to improve infrastructure and health care technology to better connect nearly 3 million rural residents and more than 400 health facilities.
