The North Carolina Office of the State Auditor (OSA) has introduced a new Award of Excellence to honor state entities that demonstrate outstanding performance in preparing financial statements and completing federal compliance audits. This recognition highlights exemplary fiscal management and sets a benchmark for accuracy and accountability within state agencies.
State Auditor Dave Boliek commented on the initiative, highlighting the dedication of certain entities during audits. “As our team conducts audits, there are some entities that go above and beyond in preparing their financial statements. These entities deserve recognition, and I’m proud to honor them with this Award of Excellence,” Boliek said in a press release, emphasizing the office’s commitment to rigorous financial oversight that supports transparency and efficiency within North Carolina’s government operations.
The first recipients of the Award of Excellence for Fiscal Year 2024 include a range of educational institutions and state agencies. Honorees feature community colleges such as Isothermal, Lenoir, Sampson, and Wilkes Community College; universities including UNC–Chapel Hill, NC State University, and East Carolina University; and state agencies like the NC Department of Revenue, the Ports Authority, and the Department of Information Technology. This recognition highlights the commitment to financial accuracy and accountability across North Carolina’s public sector, as outlined in the OSA’s announcement.
To earn the Award of Excellence, organizations must meet strict requirements: timely submission of unaudited financial statements, no significant post-audit adjustments, zero audit findings, and no delays during the audit process. Additionally, the entity must not be under investigation or experiencing financial difficulties. A full list of award recipients and detailed criteria are available on the OSA’s announcement page.
