A late Saturday night on San Antonio's North Side ended in tragedy when a 46-year-old man was shot and killed at an apartment complex, and a 22-year-old man landed in handcuffs, according to San Antonio police. Officers were called just after 10 p.m. to the 1300 block of Patricia Drive, where they found the victim with apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say the suspected shooter was later tracked to a nearby residence, taken into custody and booked on a murder charge, according to KSAT.
Police: Preliminary report lays out scene, arrest
A preliminary report from the San Antonio Police Department, as reported by KSAT, states that witnesses told officers they saw the shooter run into a nearby residence after the gunfire. The department's Street Crimes Unit and SWAT officers moved in, set up a perimeter around the home and called the man out before taking him into custody without further incident.
The report identifies the victim as a 46-year-old man and the suspect as a 22-year-old man, who was arrested on a murder charge. Detectives say the investigation remains active as they comb through the scene, collect evidence and continue interviewing witnesses.
Police ask for tips as detectives probe
Authorities are urging anyone who might have seen or heard anything to contact Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP (210-224-7867), or to text Tip 127 plus details to CRIMES (274637). Neighbors described a heavy police presence at the complex Saturday night and said the swift response caught their attention. So far, investigators have not released a possible motive, and police have not publicly identified either the suspect or the victim while the inquiry continues.
Icon Apartments have seen major incidents before
The shooting unfolded at the Icon Apartments on Patricia Drive, a complex that has already seen its share of emergency activity in recent years. In June 2023, a lightning-sparked fire damaged several units and displaced residents, according to the San Antonio Express-News. Last year, an officer-involved shooting at the same property left a San Antonio police officer wounded and a suspect dead, per KSAT. Those earlier incidents have kept some residents uneasy and focused attention on safety at the complex.
What comes next
The 22-year-old man remains accused of murder, and it will be up to prosecutors and detectives to decide what formal charges to pursue and what evidence to present at arraignment. SAPD has said it will release more details as the case develops and as court records become available.
