An assault on the Upper West Side late Sunday night has the NYPD on the hunt for a man who attacked another man with a baseball bat. According to Gothamist, the incident occurred around 10:35 p.m. near West End Avenue and West 107th Street, where a 24-year-old victim was struck multiple times in the face by an assailant. The attacker fled the scene on foot in the direction of Riverside Park.
Authorities described the suspect as roughly 5 feet 8 inches tall with slim build and a light complexion. The man was last seen dressed in all black, carrying a black baseball bat—a detail reiterated by footage released by the police. The NYPD has shared surveillance and cell phone images of the suspected assailant and urged anyone with information to contact the Crime Stoppers Hotline.
In a separate report from the New York Post, the victim, whose identity is not disclosed, was attacked without warning and the violence of the attack was captured on video. The victim was "rushed by EMS to Mount Sinai Morningside in stable condition," suffering from facial injuries.
The police are actively seeking tips from the public, as the level of unprovoked violence in the encounter is alarming. The NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline, a resource for the community to assist in such cases, can be reached at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish speakers, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
