Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has taken time to showcase the state's investment in the battle against pediatric cancer with visits to children's hospitals in Cincinnati and Cleveland. DeWine, accompanied by Kara Wente of the Ohio Department of Children and Youth and Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff of the Ohio Department of Health, pointed out the importance of the grant during his rounds, which comes from a new Pediatric Cancer Research Grant program initiated within the state's budget for the fiscal years 2026-2027.
The visits were a follow-up to an announcement made at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus on Thursday. During his rounds, just looking on as the little warriors bravely faced their conditions, the governor remarked on the vital contributions of research for those diagnosed with cancer at a young age. The programs championed by the $5 million grant were selected to drive progress in diagnosis, treatment, and the long-term well-being of children and young adults plagued by this disease.
According to the Office of the Governor, these funds will support the innovative projects spearheaded by five Ohio-based health care and non-profit research organizations, underlining the state's commitment to advancing medical science in the realm of childhood cancer.
