Ohio is stepping up its game in election readiness with Secretary of State Frank LaRose spearheading the launch of a modern training platform aimed at election officials. According to an announcement today, the Ohio Election Readiness Training Institute is the new hub for cutting-edge, interactive instructional content, designed to beef up the knowledge and operational capabilities of the state's election workforce.
LaRose's military background seems to have heavily influenced the institute's approach, focusing on continuous learning as a vital component for successful election administration. “Continuous learning and improvement are core concepts of readiness in the military, and we’re applying that same approach to the way we prepare for elections,” Secretary LaRose stated in an announcement obtained by Ohio's Secretary of State Frank LaRose's office. The effort underscores the scope of the operation that touches millions, aiming to ensure optimum readiness for the crucial days when polls open across the state.
Under the new system, election officials are required to rack up training credits to ensure they're up-to-date on their electoral knowledge. Newbies to the board must act quickly to catch up, completing six training credits within their first six months and an additional eight within their first full year. The old guard, both incumbents and reappointees, is expected to keep pace with at least eight credits of continuing education annually.
A nod to the enhanced training experience came from Aaron Ockerman, Executive Director of the Ohio Association of Election Officials, who heralded the platform's capacity to engage and educate. "Whether you’re just starting out or have years of experience, this new training platform certainly provides a more dynamic and engaging way to help Ohio’s election professionals build the knowledge and skills needed for success,” Ockerman said, as reported by the Ohio Secretary of State office. The Readiness Institute pledges to offer continuous digital access to the freshest instruction content, sourced from established manuals and handbooks curated by the Secretary of State's office.
