Commuters in Oklahoma City might need to adjust their schedules as temporary lane closures are set to hit Melrose Lane starting this Thursday. The eastbound and westbound lanes between North Rockwell Avenue and North MacArthur Boulevard will see restricted access to facilitate roadway restoration, following the installation of a new water line. The OKC Utilities Department's contractors are spearheading the project, which is essential for maintaining the city's infrastructure, according to the City of Oklahoma City.
While business access will be maintained during the construction period, through traffic will be directed to detour around the work zone. The changes will practically force to reroute, as direct passage won't be an option. Anticipated to last until Dec. 23, the city is guiding drivers to seek alternate routes. The City of Oklahoma City Government website advises caution for those traveling through the affected area.
The project includes two phases, with the first closure slated to end right before the Christmas holiday. However, residents should brace for additional disruptions in the new year when contractors return on Jan. 5 to complete road repairs. This subsequent phase will focus on the westbound lane of Melrose Lane, which is expected to be out of commission for about two weeks, culminating in a planned reopening by Jan. 19, as detailed by the City of Oklahoma City.
