In a move that may bring the global spectacle of women's soccer to The City Beautiful, Orlando has thrown its hat into the ring to play host for the 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Indeed, according to WFTV, Camping World Stadium and the Inter&Co Stadium are the two venues spotlighted in the official bid book. As if the stakes weren't high enough, Orlando's candidacy is part of a regional pact with Mexico, Costa Rica, and Jamaica to co-host the tournament.
As the anticipation in Orlando mounts, with fans envisaging bustling stadiums and electric game nights, the Greater Orlando Sports Commission made its pride known, stating they are, "proud to work alongside the Greater Orlando Sports Commission and our community partners to help bring one of the most impactful FIFA Women’s World Cups ever to Orlando," said Jarrod Dillon, President of Business Operations for Orlando City SC, Orlando Pride, and Inter&Co Stadium, as reported by WFTV. With both national U.S. teams undefeated on this turf, one might say the local good luck charm is already in effect.
Awaiting a facelift, Camping World Stadium is poised to begin a $400 million renovation in December, aiming to bolster its capacity to hold at least 65,000 spectators, noted WESH. Recognizing the historical success of soccer in Orlando, Caesar Lopez, COO and general counsel for Orlando City Soccer Club, confirmed the city's aggressive pursuit of the bid, acknowledging the significance of hosting such an esteemed tournament and its potential to catalyze women's soccer in the region.
The final decision about which nation will host is set for the reveal after FIFA's Congress scheduled for April 30, 2026.
