Two cold case homicides in Osceola County have finally been resolved, offering some semblance of peace to affected families and a community that has waited for justice for years. As reported by ClickOrlando, the Osceola County Sheriff's Office credited the successes to their Cold Case Program, an initiative launched just last year.
The first of the cases, traced back to 2007, involved De'Andre Nathaniel Wellnitz, a 17-year-old fatally stabbed during a house party. A person of interest located in Orlando in September 2025, admitted to their involvement during the incident, claiming they acted in self-defense after being struck. This explanation, accepted by the sheriff's office, resulted in no charges being pressed, with deputies determining the action as self-defense. WFTV detailed the solving of the second case, the 2022 shooting of Jommil Baez-Quinones, 23. The investigation reopened in 2024 and led to the apprehension of suspect Luis Eluvar Gonzalez in May 2025.
With tenacity, detectives pushed beyond stale leads and, in cooperation with US Marshals, finalized the arrest of Gonzalez. Later, charges were formally lodged by the State Attorney's Office in September 2025. In expressing their gratitude, the Osceola County Sheriff's Office acknowledged Ashley Garner and her team at the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) for their essential partnership.
The Cold Case Program's effectiveness was further highlighted by the substantial legal reviews provided by the State's Attorney's Office throughout the investigations. The county scheduled a press conference to shed light on the resolved cases and discuss the sustained efforts marshaled for other pending cold cases.
