A large fire engulfed a commercial building in San Pedro on Tuesday night, challenging firefighters as they worked to contain the blaze. According to a report by ABC7, the fire started around 9 p.m. in the 1600 block of S. Pacific Avenue. The Los Angeles Fire Department quickly responded to the scene, where flames were seen shooting through the roof of the involved structure.
Transitioning to a defensive operation due to the intensity of the fire, additional resources were called upon, escalating the incident to a Greater Alarm status. The Los Angeles Fire Department signaled the magnitude of this event through their swift move to bring more manpower and equipment to the frontline of the firefight. Flames and smoke billowed into the night sky, as captured by AIR7, revealing the severity of the situation from its aerial vantage point.
More than 100 firefighters fought determinedly for two hours to achieve control over the fire, finally managing to knock it down by 11:02 PM, as detailed in a LAFD alert. The fire had primarily taken hold of a bike rental business, with subsequent damage spreading to an adjoining car repair and sales business. Despite the potential for harm, no injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported during the intense endeavor.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by LAFD Arson investigators, following standard protocol for a Major Emergency fire. Officials expect the overhaul operation, critical for ensuring that the fire is completely extinguished and poses no further threat, to last approximately two hours. Public Information Officer CII Cody Weireter has been made available to meet with media representatives, providing updates and addressing any inquiries regarding the incident.
