Major disruptions are coming to South Kings Avenue in Brandon, as the thoroughfare will be shut down overnight between Buckhorn Creek Road and Greenbriar Drive. According to Hillsborough County officials, the closure, which is set for today, Dec. 3 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. tomorrow, Dec. 4, is due to work on the South Hillsborough Pipeline. Motorists will be affected as detours are put in place; those driving northbound on South Kings Avenue will need to reroute via John Moore and Providence roads, while southbound traffic is directed towards Sherry Drive and Greenbriar Drive.
Moving into tomorrow, Dec. 4, the roadway will sport a new traffic pattern to accommodate ongoing construction. South Kings Avenue will see its lanes decreased to just one in each direction at West Bloomingdale Avenue. Unfolding south of Bloomingdale Avenue, the single northbound lane of South Kings Avenue will be shifted to the west side, reports say. Despite the changes, there will be maintained access on Bloomingdale Avenue for east or west turns with no dedicated left-turn lanes and a new speed limit of 35 miles per hour is put into effect.
The new traffic setup will likely lead to slower travel times and the authorities are asking drivers to exercise caution through the area. While the construction is underway, locals employing bikes and pedestrians are also advised to remain vigilant. Those who typically use South Kings Avenue for their north-south commutes might consider using alternative routes such as John Moore and Providence roads to bypass the affected segment.
