Yesterday morning, a pedestrian was fatally struck near NAS Jax, marking the 166th traffic-related death in Duval County this year and the 37th involving a pedestrian. According to News4Jax, the accident occurred around 12:04 a.m. at the intersection of Avent Drive and Palm Hills Drive, where the driver of an eastbound vehicle hit a person walking in the roadway, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported.
The victim, a man in his mid-50s, was struck by a Honda Civic driven by a man in his early 20s and was transported to a local hospital by Jacksonville Fire Rescue, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, as per First Coast News.
Avent Drive was closed for several hours while the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit conducted an on-scene investigation, temporarily disrupting traffic in the area.
