In a recent update from the Philadelphia Department of Streets, residents have been warned to remain cautious as icy conditions persist on city roads. The department has actively treated the roadways, but due to the dip in overnight temperatures, the effectiveness of road salt diminishes, leaving the potential for slick travel surfaces until the weather warms. "Our crews are actively monitoring and treating trouble areas and will continue to do so through the night to ensure careful, necessary travel, can be done safely," said a department representative in a social media post.
While roads have been prepped for travel, the city's department has urged Philadelphians to limit their driving and consider using SEPTA as an alternative form of transportation. For those who must drive, the department advises proceeding with extra caution: "If you do need to drive, please go slowly, leave extra space between vehicles, and be especially cautious on bridges and overpasses," according to a Philadelphia Department of Streets social media post.
Officials are warning residents about the risks posed by winter weather and urging motorists to use caution to help prevent accidents. The Philadelphia Department of Streets says it is actively working to reduce hazards from icy road conditions and is providing regular updates through its official social media channels. City officials added that the department will continue monitoring roadway conditions and sharing safety information throughout the winter season.
